India invites Australian youth of Indian origin
The Government of India is extending an invitation to youth of Indian origin to attend ‘Know India Programme (KIP) during 2010-11.
The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs will be running a 3-week KIP in India between August 2010 and March 2011.
The programme is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) from all over the world, between the age group of 18-26 years.
The applicants should either be studying in the under-graduate level or should have completed under-graduation or equivalent.
He/she should be able to converse in English. [They should have studied English as a subject at the High School level or should have English as a medium of instruction for under-graduate course.
Selected participants would be required to purchase air ticket for their journey from the country of residence to India and back in consultation with their respective Indian Mission and Posts.
Concerned Indian Mission/Post would reimburse 90% (ninety percent) of the total cost of air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) to the participants on production of the certificate regarding the successful completion of the programme by them which is provided to the participants at the end of the programme by the Ministry.
Gratis visa by the Indian High Commission in Australia would be granted to selected participants.
The program necessarily involves visits to, and stay in, rural areas where accommodation may be rather basic. This would mean dealing with conditions quite different from those you are used to here in Australia. You will be expected to show flexibility and a certain amount of discipline in dealing with what you will encounter. Therefore, please ensure that you are mentally and physically prepared for a vibrant, exciting and challenging experience before you decide to apply for this programme.
