UP Association celebrates India's 72nd Independence Day

MELBOURNE, 19 AUG. India's Independence Day is celebrated throughout the world every year: some celebrate on the actual day, i.e. 15th August while others celebrate on the following weekends.

In Melbourne, India's 72nd Independence Day was celebrated by the Consulate General of India and many other Indian organisations, including the Uttar Pradesh Association of Australia (UPAA) on Sunday, the 19th of August.

While the whole of Melbourne was shivering in the cold snap, a number of spirited people from UPAA joined hands at Bellfield Community Centre, Ivanhoe to celebrate this significant occasion.

The function was attended by well-known community and political leaders such as Hon'ble Mr. Kevin Andrews MP; Mr. Anthony Carbines MP; Dr. Raj Khillan; Mr. Manoj Kumar; & Mr. Rampal Muthyala.

The program started with blowing of the conch shell to invoke auspiciousness in a traditional Indian way. The program then progressed into a highly absorbing variety entertainment program. Hallmark of the program was showcasing of the homegrown talent which included tunes of the national anthems of India and Australia on violin and playing of the traditional bamboo flute.

While welcoming the guests, the UPAA's Founder & President Dr. Santosh Kumar Yadav said, "UPAA is connecting links from Uttar Pradesh to Australia and it has strong bonds, between countries; hundreds of years…These are bonds of trade, science, tourism, and education."

After Dr Yadav's speech, the Chief Guest Mr. Kevin Andrew MP, spoke about Australia being the multicultural nation and he highly appreciated the UPAA's efforts for playing a very important role in bringing UPAA more closer to Australia's mainstream community. Mr Andrew extended his help in furthering UPAA's efforts.

Similar appreciation and support was echoed by the other speakers, like Mr. Anthony Carbines MP & Dr. Raj Khillan.

The function took a very interesting turn which everyone was eagerly waiting for, i.e. the national and patriotic songs on Bollywood tunes. The audience was seen happily tapping their feet on the tunes of the now iconic song 'Jai Ho'.

Prior to concluding the function, the sponsorers were recognised and certificates of appreciation were awarded to: Ayurveda Yoga Wellness Clinic, Loan Market & Prudent Loans and others.

The teams behind these celebrations were: Mrs Shipra Ojha, Mrs Mansha Tiwari, Mrs Poonam Shukla, Mrs Sharda Yadav, Mrs Sangeeta Dewal, Mrs Urvasi Srivastava, Mrs Sarita Yadav, Dr Umesh Sharma, Mr Krishan Tiwari, Dr Ravi Shukla, Mr Shalendra Dewal, Mr Diptiman Yadav & Mr Pradeep Srivastava who are hoping to bring all UP people under one roof to support and strengthen the community and contribute to the well being of the Indian Diaspora in Australia.

Watch out for more engaging community programs from UPAA in future!

UPAA was founded and registered as a not for profit organization under the Australia Charities and Not for Profit Commissions (ACNC) in 2016.
