Lawyer mum launches organic bedding in Australia

MELBOURNE, 10 MAY. Melbourne based, Jennifer Jampala, has launched organic bedding company ‘Prinka’ which aims to create luxurious bedding that is certified organic and ethically made.

Prinka bedding is for those who want a luxurious and stylish bedroom whilst reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing; and ensuring we know where our products are made, and that workers are paid fairly.

Being a mum of two young children and previously a lawyer, Jennifer wanted to work from home so she could take care of her daughters, whilst pursuing a passion for interior design and the environment.

“Working from home gives me the flexibility to work the hours I want to work, so I am able to focus on my children when I need to, whilst still finding time to focus on my business. Starting your own business is exciting and frightening at the same time. But it also gave me the opportunity to work with a purpose and a passion that I hadn’t had when I was working in a corporate environment. I have always loved styling my home and following home styling trends, so starting a bedding company allows me to dabble creatively in this field, when I otherwise would not have had the opportunity.

Also, being a mum has taught me to multi-task, to have patience and time management. All skills that are necessary to run a successful business,” Jennifer says.

It was particularly important to ensure Prinka’s products were made from 100% organic cotton because the traditional production of cotton is very toxic for the environment and for farmers. “Not many people think about where their products are made, how they are made, and particularly how toxic the production of cotton is on the environment. This was something that I wanted to address. I also found there were a lot of people who also desired to have a smaller environmental foot print.”

Prinka’s bedding is made from 100% organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard and Prinka works with manufacturing facilities in the south of India that are Fairtrade certified. Every purchase of Prinka's products contribute to the investment in small rural farming communities in India. This helps to empower those who are vulnerable, to have more control over their future and the environment they live in.

“Our supply chain is traceable so we know where all our materials and craftsmanship come from,” says Jennifer.

But not only is it important Prinka’s products are organic, Prinka is all about luxury and style. Their sheets are soft and luxurious, made from a sateen weave and available in a variety of styles.
